Compassion Has No Walls: Lights for Liberty Action at ICE

RSVP

Description

Join Bend the Arc as we co-sponsor the Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity's monthly interfaith vigil in front of ICE in San Francisco. We will nourish our spirit with Jewish song and prayer and call for the dismantling of ALL forms of detention and incarceration. Together we will turn our collective energy to mend the past, heal the present, and transform the future!

We are working to stop the inhumane treatment of individuals and families in concentration camps today on our southern border and elsewhere in the US, as experienced in the past by Jewish communities in Europe and Japanese Americans during World War II. At this vigil, we will stand in solidarity with members of the Japanese American community to support recent immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers as we call for the closing of all detention centers: "Never Again Is Now.”  Survivors of these past and present injustices will speak at the vigil. The powerful messages of these individuals are a call to action: we cannot stand by and allow human rights abuses of migrants to continue.

  • Ben Stern, a Bay Area Holocaust survivor will speak regarding his experiences of being separated from his family and imprisoned in concentration camps in World War II. More about Ben here

  • Chizu Omori, a Bay Area Japanese internment camp survivor will speak regarding her time imprisoned by the United States government.  More information here

  • Sindy Flores, a recently arrived immigrant to the Bay Area from Honduras who was separated from her child for a month will speak regarding her experience as an asylum seeker.

The event will end with a call to action--opportunities for attendees to get involved in concrete ways to stop the injustice.

This vigil is a part of the national "Lights for Liberty" campaign happening across the country demanding an end to detention: https://www.lightsforliberty.org
